Author Bob Steele will speak at the First Congregational Church of East Windsor, 124 Scantic Road, East Windsor on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1 pm regarding Connecticut’s casino experience and the proposal to open a casino in the Hartford-Enfield area.
Mr. Steele is a former CIA officer, U.S. Congressman, and nominee for Governor of Connecticut, and is the author of “The Curse: Big-Time Gambling’s Seduction of a Small New England Town” (Levellers Press). The book, which has just gone into its second printing, is a novel set against the explosion of casino gambling in Connecticut during the 1990s, when two Indian tribes built the world’s two biggest casinos in the southeastern corner of the state.
WBZ Boston’s Dan Rea calls the book “powerful,” and Connecticut author Martin Shapiro describes it as “compelling and timely, a riveting story of history, money, and politics that will make you wonder where America is headed.” The Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ has taken a strong position against the further expansion of casino gambling in Connecticut.
We will invite Mr. Steele to attend a Pot Luck lunch at 11:30 with the program to follow at 1:00pm. Please join me in welcoming him on September 20th. See me to sign up for the Pot- Luck and reserve your seat for this important event.
